Welcome to the second installment of of Sparkle Girl recordings from the Splinter Squid Affair #2.

Today is the fantastic free jazz duo Walrus Machine. Powered by the squalling sax of James and the fluid percussion of Lyle. Walrus Machine played a great set and showed the house that free jazz and noise can often have a lot in common.

As with Du Hexen Hase we will be adding more info to this episode in the upcoming week. Following our exhaustion from documenting the Wooden Octopus Pfestival STARTING TONIGHT!!!!

Thanks to James and Lyle and we hope you like it.

Enjoy,

<img src="http://sparklegirl.podOmatic.com/mymedia/thumb/15148/0x0_633978.jpg" alt="itunes pic" /><br />While the exact date is unknown we can recall that is was 1998, one member had received his last unemployment check and fittingly enough bought a bass. Etimates hazy but we're guessing summer/fall 1998.

We LOVE this song for several reasons:
Sparkle Girl in the beginning had a fluctuating membership. Whereas before several people might be on a recording this piece represents the real beginnings of Sparkle Girl that have continued to this day.
This is also special in that it is an atypical non noise track for us.
As devotees of German trance rock especially Can this is a an "instant" composition rather than an jam or improv piece.
We did not look at each other during the recording having to sit side by side for feedback avoidance. What also makes it special is that the "instant" is truly that. We had finished recording for the day, forgot to turn off the tape recorder and were relaxing when Kurt picked up the bass and the sampler was string combo. The sun shined through the window warmiing our backs as we recorded what we think is probably the sweetest track we've ever recorded. Just because we're somewhat freaky noise guys disguised as the everydayman doesn't mean we don't like flowers.

Dedicated to Lisa E. and Kim D.
It's the closest we'll ever get to a love song.

Thanks for listening, send in those sounds world! sparklegirl@podomatic.com

Porch Intruder Becomes Violent

<img src="http://sparklegirl.podOmatic.com/mymedia/thumb/15148/0x0_633979.jpeg" alt="itunes pic" /><br />One of our favorite tracks from our cdr Asymptote, SME 001. Copies still available and in stores in Seatle, San Francisco and Glasgow.

This is a special track to us not only cause it made us laugh our asses off but also the first review we received from the always honest Alvarious B. said it was his favorite track as well.

Flood and Windowscape

<img src="http://sparklegirl.podOmatic.com/mymedia/thumb/15148/0x0_633980.jpeg" alt="itunes pic" /><br />Recorded when one member of Sparkle Girl and dear wife and kitties suffered a flood. Unlike FEMA flood damage was contained quickly and Sparkle Girl rapidly transported equipment and rescued all important items.

This is the only recording Sparkle Girl ever made while in this temporary studio space. Notable that one member could not hear what was actually being played.

Improvisation live to 4 track

Please forgive us Chris for this remix but we hope people get a kick out out of it.

Requiem for Derek Bailey Live 1.25.06

<img src="http://sparklegirl.podOmatic.com/mymedia/thumb/15148/0x0_1925790.jpg" alt="itunes pic" /><br />Sparkle Girl Memo:

This Sparkle Girl performance was recorded live to Walkman at the Seattle Memorial Concert for Derek Bailey.

We learned of Derek's passing on New Years Eve from a fellow guest at the yearly Sun City Girls New Years Party. Davey mentioned organizing a memorial show at the beloved Re-Bar on his monthly La Vide night. Generous to a fault and appreciative of Sparkle Girl party favors Davey had us join a stellar lineup of Seattle (and by way of Phoenix) musicians including:
Sir Richard Bishop
Na
Withdrawl Method
Rob Millis (from the Climax Golden Twins)
I Sing The Hollow Body Electric
Bill Horist
Sparkle Girl
+ a screening of a BBC doc on Derek and a DJ mix of Derek's music

Sparkle Girl was and continues to be, grateful to writer/musician David Keenan for the wonderful poem he wrote after meeting and interviewing Derek in Barcelona and allowed us to open the show with it.

By all means check out these othere great artists and the fantastic music available at volcanictongue.com, Mr. Keenan's awe inducing distribution site with clear concise reviews and a mix to please any fan of "other" music.

We hope you enjoy the show....
